Session 1: Introduction & Getting Acquainted with the Interface In the first session, we’ll begin by introducing GitHub and explaining its importance in version control and collaborative projects. We’ll walk through creating a GitHub account, ensuring everyone is set up and ready to go. Once accounts are created, we’ll spend time getting familiar with the GitHub interface, covering key sections like repositories, branches, pull requests, and the main dashboard. This session sets the foundation for understanding how GitHub functions and what to expect moving forward.
Session 2: Installation & Repository Creation The second session will focus on setting up GitHub on local machines, including installing GitHub Desktop. We’ll guide participants through creating their first repository, ensuring they understand the process of initializing a repository, setting up a .git ignore file, and making the first commit. By the end of this session, participants should be comfortable navigating both the local and global repositories, as well as performing basic Git operations.
Session 3: Collaborative Work & GitHub Cycle Overview In this session, we’ll dive into collaborative work on GitHub. Participants will learn how to accept repository invitations, clone repositories, and begin contributing to a shared project. We’ll go over the GitHub cycle in detail, explaining the process of fetching, pulling, committing, pushing, and creating pull requests. This session will emphasize teamwork, ensuring that everyone understands how to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
Session 4: Hands-On Practice & Validation The final session is all about putting everything into practice. Participants will work directly on the shared repository, completing assigned tasks and pushing their changes. We’ll ensure that each participant can successfully navigate the GitHub workflow, including merging their work into the main branch. This session will conclude with a review, where participants can confirm their understanding and address any remaining questions. The goal is for everyone to leave with confidence in their ability to use GitHub in real-world scenarios.
